Record win for Oxford 1st Team
18th December 2007
Oxford gave their supporters an early Christmas present when they completely demolished a very young Wheatley side, 106-0. The score might have been even bigger than it was had Oxford possessed a consistent place kicker as, despite several kicks being attempted from favourable positions, only 8 conversions were successful from the 16 tries scored. The high score was achieved by the home team moving the ball quickly and then supporting in numbers, something they did right to the final whistle, and the hapless Wheatley side had no answer to this style of play. Tom Samsworth, at scrum half, set the wheels in motion when he scored two tries from the back of rucks and the 'Flying Dutchman', winger Luuck Soeters added four of his own, and Oxford led 44-0 at half time, only to step on the gas again in the second half. Oxford scorers: Luuck Soeters 4 tries, Tom Samsworth, Tim Knapp 2 tries each, Mark Viner, Neil Walker, Tom Olley, Charlie Mason, Ken McClennan, Nick Graham 1 try each. Adam Thompson 1 try, 5 conversions, Joe Hartley 1 try, 3 conversions.
