Oxford first match report 5th Jan

07th January 2008

Oxford featured in one of those rare rugby events away at Stow-on-the-Wold on Saturday (5th January), a 0-0 draw. It was a game between two very evenly matched sides where both defences came out on top. Oxford could reflect on the moment when Andy MacDonald was driven over the Stow goal line to touch the ball down but the bodies on top of him obstructed the referee's view and no score could be given. Despite the lack of a score it was a hard game and Oxford's winger was only prevented from scoring by a high tackle but claims for a penalty try went unheard. Stow also their moments but found the Oxford defence in an uncompromising mood. There was some consolation for Oxford in that they took a point from this away game, having been beaten at home by Stow in their home match before Christmas.
