Great Weekend for ORFC hosting County's Mini's & Juniors Festival, 22nd-23rd April 2006

29th April 2006

The organisation for this festival was a mammoth task for a volunteer club and I am pleased to say that over 100 volunteers from the club made this event the success it was, looking after 137 teams in a knockout style competition.

With around 1700 players to look after over the course of the two days we catered also for the needs of just over 4000 people parking over 1300 cars and provided 1500 burgers, 1200 hotdogs, 1650 bacon rolls.

The festival was last played at Oxford rugby club in 1999 on that occasion the festival was held on one day. The popularity of mini's rugby this time meant that the festival was held over two days with the under 7's and 8's playing on the Saturday and the under 9's to under 12's playing on the Sunday.

The festival marks the fifteenth season of Mini Rugby at the club and as a club we have been delighted to have received so much positive feedback from the other clubs. I am pleased that players and spectators alike had an enjoyable two days.

At Oxford rugby club we are keen to encourage all sport for young and not so young alike. We have players ranging from 7years to 45 years and some a little older in the Veterans side. Our ladies senior team is strong and I would like to encourage anyone who wishes, to come along, meet the team, and join in.

I especially would like to thank all of the volunteers, the unsung hero's of the day, without whom the event could not have happened and to all of the young players from all of the clubs who took part.

The club continues to grow in strength and reputation because of our members.

Best wishes,
Julian Perry
Chairman Oxford Rugby Club.
