19th January Abingdon Match Report

22nd January 2008

Despite the recent inclement weather Oxford RFC were able to use the one playable pitch at their ground to their advantage, and beat Abingdon 22-5 in the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier Division. Oxford made light of the muddy conditions and, playing down a slight slope in the first half, were well in control for most of that period. The home forwards gave Abingdon little scope to expand and this resulted in two tries for winger Joe Hartley with a third from full back Alan Cameron. Adam Thompson kicked a conversion and added an easy penalty from in front of the posts, and then Tom Olley kicked a  monster conversion from the touchline, all of which gave Oxford a 22-0 half time lead. With the game seemingly won Oxford took their foot off the pedal in the second half which allowed Abingdon back into the match and they responded with a good try, but couldn't score again.
